Case Study: Designing the Love Legacy Card Game for Couples
Client: Love Legacy
Project: Love Legacy Card Game for Couples
The Love Legacy Card Game for Couples is a thoughtfully designed tool to help couples deepen their connection, build trust, and foster meaningful conversations. Rooted in the foundational pillars of Values, Standards, Boundaries, and Alignments, this 160-card game provides a guided approach to exploring important relationship topics in a fun, interactive way. Love Legacy approached MarieDee Media Group to design a visually engaging and emotionally impactful card game that aligns with their mission: to help couples grow in love and leave a lasting legacy.

Objectives
Design a card game that is visually appealing, easy to use, and encourages deep and meaningful conversations.
Organize the game around the four pillars—Values, Standards, Boundaries, and Alignments—to ensure a cohesive and practical experience.
Provide prompts that balance thoughtfulness with playfulness, making the game enjoyable for couples at all stages of their relationship.
Deliver a premium product with high-quality materials and packaging to reflect the importance of its purpose.
Challenges
Balancing depth and accessibility: ensuring the questions are impactful without feeling overly formal.
Designing a clear structure for gameplay while allowing flexibility for couples to use the cards in their own way.
Creating visually distinct card designs for each pillar while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic across the entire game.
Our Approach
1. Visual Identity Development
The visual design of the Love Legacy Card Game was inspired by elegance and warmth, reflecting the essence of love and connection.
Color Palette: Each pillar was assigned a unique color—deep blues for Values, rich golds for Standards, calming greens for Boundaries, and warm reds for Alignments—to provide visual differentiation.
Typography: Modern serif fonts paired with clean sans-serif elements for a timeless yet approachable look.
Icons & Patterns: Subtle symbols and abstract patterns were incorporated to represent the themes of each pillar, reinforcing their distinctiveness.
2. Question Development
Each pillar contains 40 carefully crafted prompts designed to spark meaningful discussions.
Values: Questions to help couples uncover what truly matters to them and align their priorities. (Example: "What core values do you want to pass on to future generations?")
Standards: Prompts focusing on expectations and relationship goals. (Example: "What’s one habit of mine that you think positively impacts our relationship?")
Boundaries: Topics centered on understanding personal and relational limits. (Example: "Can you recall a time when we successfully set a boundary together?")
Alignments: Questions that explore long-term compatibility and mutual growth. (Example: "What does an ideal future together look like for you?")
3. Card Design
Each card was designed with a clean, minimal layout to keep the focus on the questions while incorporating subtle accents from the visual identity of each pillar.
Card Format: Double-sided cards with the pillar title on one side and the question on the other.
Material: High-quality, matte-finish cardstock for durability and a premium feel.
4. Packaging Design
The game box was designed to reflect the elegance and thoughtfulness of the cards inside.
Box Design: A sturdy magnetic closure box with soft-touch laminate and foil accents.
Interior Layout: Custom compartments to neatly organize the cards by pillar.
5. Gameplay Flexibility
To accommodate different relationship dynamics, the game includes multiple ways to play, such as:
Conversation Mode: Couples take turns drawing cards and discussing prompts at their own pace.
Challenge Mode: Partners set a timer to answer as many questions as they can within a set timeframe.
Focused Mode: Players choose cards from one specific pillar to address a targeted area of their relationship.
